Down Payment Assistance Programs

This is a listing of the major DPA programs and how to access them through non-profit organizations that either sponsor or administer the assistance.  Check with the non-profit for specific program guidelines and eligibility requirements. 

Build Wealth Minnesota

  • $10,000 or $20,000 loan assistance through Homeownership Opportunity Minneapolis (HOM) for home purchase in the City of Minneapolis.

  • $5,000 to $10,000 to buyers of homes in the 7-county metro area.

  • Up to $10,000 through MN Housing Impact Fund to homebuyers purchasing in the 7-county metro area.

  • $5,000 to $40,000 through Family Housing Fund to purchasers of 2-to-4-unit properties.

City of Lakes Community Land Trust

  • Cash grants (as much as $100,000 depending on budget) through Buyer Initiated Program for purchase of home in City of Minneapolis.

Rondo Community Land Trust

  • Cash grants (amount depends on budget) through Buyer Initiated Program (HIP) in the City of Saint Paul.

NeighborWorks Home Partners www.nwhomepartners.org

  • $10,000 or $20,000 in loan assistance through Homeownership Opportunity Minneapolis (HOM) for purchase of a home in the City of Minneapolis.

  • Over $10,000 loan assistance from Metro Home Down Payment Assistance if buying a home 11-county metro area of Anoka, Carver, Chisago, Dakota, Hennepin, Isanti, Ramsey, Sherburne, Washington, or Wright county.

  • Up to $30,000 low-interest, deferred loan for first-time homebuyers purchasing in Woodbury.

  • Up to $10,500 loan from Bloomington down payment assistance if purchasing a Home in Bloomington, MN.

  • Up to $25,000 low interest loan for first-time homebuyers purchasing in Shoreview.

  • Up to $20,000 loan assistance from Community Keys Plus to buy a home in Hennepin, Ramsey, Washington, Dakota, and Anoka counties.

  • Up to $10,000 in deferred loan assistance to residents of Near North and Willard-Hay neighborhoods in partnership with Northside Resident Redevelopment Council (NRRC).

Neighborhood Assistance of America www.naca.com

  • Provides a mortgage product nationwide at below market rates with no down payment, no closing costs or fees, and no mortgage insurance. 

Three Rivers Community Action www.threeriverscap.org

  • Provides up to $18,500 in Southeastern MN in the form of 0% interest, deferred payment.

Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity

  • Offers low interest mortgage loan (TruePath Mortgage) with mortgage payments set at 30% of gross income to homebuyers in 7-county metro area.
